WORRIED ABOUT RASHES?

Allergies to adhesives is the most common cause of rashes appearing around the edge of the adhesive film whilst healing.

Allergic reactions to the film can vary from mild to severe. If the reaction is mild, the rash is usually causing the skin to look a little darker or pinker but no very raised, the film can stay on during the healing ad the rash can be soothed with antihistamine cream.

If the reaction is more severe the skin will be much darker or red and likely accompanied by raised and blotchy areas. If the symptoms get worse or do not improve and it is uncomfortable or you are worried, then the film can be removed. You will need to care for the tattoo until healed instructions here. Again, antihistamine tablets or creams can be applied to areas where the skin isn't broken.

Please seek professional medical advice if you are concerned.

What else can cause rashes and skin issues?

So certain areas of the body are prone to the adhesive film pulling on the skin.

This can be caused by the position of the limb when the adhesive film was applied vs the position of the limb when relaxed or moving around. Or an area that moves around.

Areas like backs of the upper arm, inner thigh, hip, buttocks and knees are the most common places to see this 'pulling' or 'tugging' stress on the surrounding skin.

This can improve within a few hours to a few days likely because the warmth from your body has softened and relaxed the film a little, making it pull less.

Again, if you are concerned that your tattoo isn't healing correctly and the information on this page doesn't help then please seek professional medical advice as soon as you can.
